Jan Akkerman
Jan Akkerman is a world famous guitarist from the Netherlands. He was born on the 24th of December 1946 in Amsterdam. His main genres are Progressive Rock, Blues and my personal favorite, Jazz. He started his career on age 14 and after graduating from the Sweelinck Conservatory of Music; he began touring with lots of great artists like B.B. King, Paco de Lucia, Charlie Byrd and lots of other great musicians.
After releasing his first single, the teachers at his school could not handle him anymore, so he got sent to the Schroder Institute. After studying there for 4 years, he got accepted into the Conservatory and got tested by principal and received a Scholarship afterwards. He got into a lot of bands after graduating like the Friendship Sextet, Johnny and his Cellar Rockers and the world famous Focus. He even made a few world hits while in Focus, like Sylvia and Hocus Pocus.
The reason why I look up to this man is because he is one of the few Dutch old veterans who made a mark in history as a wonderful musician. He even got voted in 1973 by the readers of Melody Makers, a British music magazine, to be the best guitar player in the world.
Of course, with the new generation of music, loads of amazing new guitarists have arrived, but they have yet to make their mark in History like Akkerman did.
