Jan Wolkers

Jan Wolkers was a Dutch writer, sculptor and painter. He was one of the best post-war writers. He passed away almost seven years ago. One of the most famous books of Wolkers is Turks Fruit. His way of writing is really pure and direct. Some people find it to open and sometimes even rude, but I like his style. He writes about the things in life everyone has to deal with, in an honest way and with humor. So I like his style but his choice of subjects as well. For example, De Junival. It’s a story about his cat. Actually nothing special but the way he writes it makes it entertaining and even interesting.

Most of his books are novels. I’ve read a few, Turks Fruit en some other ones. A few novels have been made into a film. And there you also see his pure and direct way of telling a story.

To be honest, I don’t really have Dutch hero’s or saints, but Jan Wolkers is a writer I really prefer and I recommend you to read one of his books.
