Rembrandt van Rijn
I think Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) is definitely a hero. Rembrandt van Rijn was a Dutch painter. He is generally considered as one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art and most important in Dutch history.
Rembrandt van Rijn was born in Leiden, his father was a miller and his mother was a baker’s daughter. At the end of 1631 Rembrandt moved to Amsterdam and began to practice as a professional portraitist for the first time with great success. He initially stayed with an art dealer, Hendrick van Uylenburgh and in 1634 he married Hendrick’s cousin Saskia van Uylenburgh. There were two ways too paint and Rembrandt knew them both very well. Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade. Rembrandt painted mainly portraits. The painting known as Night Watch (nacht wacht) was clearly a turning point in his career.
Rembrandt died poor and misunderstood. Now he is very popular for the tourists that visit the Netherlands and for the dutch people. His work is also very expensive.
