Kadriorig Art Museum - Tallin, Estonia
Estonia’s most magnificent palace and park ensemble in Kadriorg was
designed in 1718 by the request of the Russian Emperor Peter the Great
by the Italian architect Niccolo Michetti. The Great Hall of the Palace
is one of the finest examples of the Baroque architecture in the whole
Northern Europe.
Since summer 2000 the Kadriorg Palace has housed one of the branches of
the Art Museum of Estonia, Kadriorg Art Museum. The permanent exhibition
includes works of Western European and Russian art from 16th to 20th
century – paintings, graphic art, sculpture and applied arts. Besides
permanent collection museum organises temporary exhibitions, concerts,
theatrical presentations, lectures and excursions.
In the Kadriorg Art Museum educational activities unrolled soon after
the Museum was opened. Since 2001 curators and educators have worked
together to raise art awareness among their audiences.
Appreciation of art is a characteristic that develops over time,
therefore the Kadriorg Art Museum is dedicated to fostering the artistic
spirit in all age groups. What makes Kadriorg Art Museum's educational
methods unique is that many of the programmes are offered in a module.
Continuous museum education is forwarded in the frameworks of the
„Palace School“ for children, „Saturday Academy“ for grown-ups, „Guide
school“ for museum educators and guides. This is done in conviction that
regular training is always more effective than a single visit. Museum
can become a place for good time and entertainment, it can also be a
classroom for those who want to learn.
