Defining Problems

DEFINING relevant PROBLEMS the project partners use different tools in their respective institutions. The Westfalen-Kolleg Paderborn (DE), e. g., conducts interviews with their new students thus trying to find out about those skills and abilities of the students which are necessary for successfully attending school:

  •     Have the students allowed for enough extra time for learning at home?
  •     Are they sufficiently eager to work on various subjects?
  •     Will they be able to deal with their inevitable frustration once they are confronted with disappointment and setbacks?
  •     Are they prepared and willing enough to learn successfully in teams?

The colleagues working at the BARTIN Lisesi (TR) present a fine analysis of the elements they have found to be responsible for students' problems while they attend school:

At the Polhems Grammar School in Gothenburg (SE) new students fill in questionnaires which provide a helpful basis for the teachers to check with their students whether somebody might need an individual offer of support:

At the Regional Enterprise Support Centre (RESC) in Pleven (BG) teachers and applicants take stock of the applicants' abilities and skills at the beginning of a specific course. This is where they describe the process of taking stock:
